mSystems, ASM's new open-access, systems microbiology journal publishes impactful, cutting-edge science associated with metabolic and regulatory systems on the scale of both a single cell and entire microbial communities. As part of the submission process, authors are encouraged to provide a 150-word "Importance" paragraph, a nontechnical summary written in language that conveys the importance of the work to non-specialists.
